Haunted Houses and ACOTAR

Haunted Houses and ACOTAR

Since my last post, I have been busy trying to expand my coloring book offerings. I am very happy to announce that I have successfully published a paperback version of my Haunted Houses coloring book on Amazon. There is a second coloring book coming out also, that one is in review and I’m having trouble getting that one through because of formatting for some reason.

As I’ve been saying all along, there is so much to learn. I’ve published books on Amazon before, but low content books and coloring books are formatted differently, I guess which goes along with a different review process as well. Needless to say, I am waiting with baited breath for the other coloring book to pass.

In the meantime, the first book is completely spooktacular, in a whimsical, quirky way so fitting for a haunted house coloring book. I hope you can check it out and give your halloween preps a boost by getting started early with some coloring fun. I’ll post a picture with a link at the bottom of this post.

In addition to adding to my coloring books, I’ve also returned to reading! Yaaaas! Open the skies and let the sun shine down on me! It feels so good to read again.

I recently finished reading A Court of Thorns and Roses, or ACOTAR as lovingly known by its huge fan base. I gotta say, when I first started the book, I thought it was a bit slow. Not quite as bad as Throne of Glass, which I posted about previously, but slow to the point I fell asleep on multiple occasions. But, I kept on because I promised a friend I would finish so we can talk about it.

I plodded along and then I understood why so many readers are so crazy about this book. I will say that it took time to get to my aha moment because initially I wasn’t even sure if I liked the main character (Fayre), but I got there. The other thing that was really throwing me off, was this Beauty and the Beast feel that was going on. It wasn’t obvious at first, but once you see the first sign, you just can’t help, but see others, and then it feels like a re-telling of the classic story, but with a twist.

I don’t know whether that was the intention of the author and whether other readers have felt this way, but I certainly did. I’ve purposely stayed away from social media posts on the series cause I don’t want to come across any spoilers, so I don’t know if my opinion on the Beauty and the Beast thing is an anomaly.

It’s not a bad thing about Beauty and Beast — at all. It’s actually one of my favorite fairy tales, but I just thought it was kind of funny that this huge, mega, best seller of a book is a retelling of a classic.

Bottom line, ACOTAR is a great book and I would recommend any fantasy, romance lover to read it. I’m now moving on to book 2 of the series and supposedly it’s even better than the first. Standards have been set very high. I will post on book 2 when I finish. It’s much thicker than book 1 and I have other projects. It’ll take me a bit longer to read, but read it, I shall! More to come on this.

If you haven’t read, ACOTAR, give it a shot. Get past the first few chapters. It’s like the quiet before the storm. The book moves so fast once you get past it, then you’ll be losing sleep just to keep reading it.

Enjoy! (Click the image to take you to Amazon.)
