There is a strange moment in the creative process when something you invented begins to feel as though it has always existed.

At first, it is only an idea. Maybe there is a harbor. A winding street. A bridge stretching across the water. You add a few old buildings, blooming flowers, and a lighthouse standing watch over the bay.

Then the place begins collecting stories.

A marketplace becomes loud and cheerful because it reminds you of someone you love. A peaceful garden is named for a beloved pet. A running trail earns its own legend because of a little rescue dog who once seemed capable of outracing the wind. Inside jokes slip into the local history. Family memories become landmarks. Even the wrong turns and everyday chaos of real life find somewhere to belong.

Eventually, you are no longer simply building a setting. You are remembering people. Honoring animals who were part of your family. Preserving laughter. Saving small pieces of life that might otherwise disappear with time.

That is how Merravelle has been growing.

Merravelle is a magical bayside town with old streets, impossible stairways, unusual citizens, and at least a few routes that probably should not be trusted. It is beautiful, occasionally ridiculous, and far more interested in welcoming people than in behaving sensibly.

Most importantly, there is room there for everyone and everything.

I did not sit down and plan every corner of it. Merravelle arrived gradually, one place and one memory at a time. In many ways, it has grown the way a family grows—organically, unexpectedly, and with its own collection of traditions, stories, and jokes that would require a very long explanation for anyone outside the circle.

Perhaps that is why it has begun to feel real to me. Not real in the literal sense, of course, though I wish it were. It’s certainly a place I would make time to visit. Unfortunately, I cannot purchase a ferry ticket to Merravelle, although I suspect the ferry would be running late if I could.

But it feels emotionally real and I love, love, love the freedom it comes with. Merravelle is light, and warm, and fun, and unexpected, and chaotic, and… it’s my heart.

It carries things I cherish — love, belonging, mischief, grief, memory, and the beautiful disorder of sharing your life with others. Beneath the magic and humor is a place built from the idea that no one has to be perfectly ordinary—or perfectly anything—to belong.

For now, I am allowing Merravelle to reveal itself slowly, because that’s what she wants.

But, I can’t wait to discover Merravelle as she unfolds. There are still streets I have not explored, stories I do not know, and residents who have not yet introduced themselves.

And honestly?

I’m giddy about them all. I hope you’ll join me in discovering Merravelle.
