Undistracted by Bob Goff
I’m still listening to audio books via Audible.com. I’m still loving it! I think this is my new normal as far as learning from non-fiction books. It’s just so much easier for me.
This is the first Bob Goff book I’ve read/listened to, and I was pleasantly surprised. I love the humor he infuses into his stories. There’s also charm to his personality that came across. I’m sure that serves him well being that he’s a pastor and a prior attorney. I would think in industries such as those, where words are your tools having the charm to deliver those tools would be 100% better.
That being said, he does reference the bible and God in his stories. If that is not your style, this may not be the book for you. I personally liked it and enjoyed the references. Also, he’s not preachy about it. I sort of felt like I was listening to a grandfather figure tell a story. I had flashbacks of Princess Bride when the granpa was reading a story to his grandson. I found the narration pleasant and friendly.
What is this book about? The message in the book is to be present — whether you do big things or little things. Being present in all you do means living a life and not just being there on auto pilot. In one of the chapters — what stood out for me and what is still wriggling around in my mind is this — Mr. Goff said, “Choose family always.” Such a simple statement, but it hit me in the feels.
I really enjoyed the book and it’s made me curious about his other publications.
