Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros
I recently saw a lot of social media buzz around this book. It was right around the time the 2nd book, Iron Flame came out. Advertising sure worked on me and I had to check it out. I do love fantasy and romance after all.
I bought both Fourth Wing and Iron Flame at Costco. I think I got a much better deal because… Costco. Anyways, I just finished reading Fourth Wing and I understand the buzz! I really, really do. Oh, my heart. I’m still recovering from the last few chapters…. oy! I had to walk away a few times just to catch my breath and dry my eyes because, yes, I was crying. But, just like any good book has the power to pull you back in, Fourth Wing surely did that for me. Over and over. It was an obsession and I could not wait to find out what happens next. The book is fast with lots of action, but also very well paced to give you time to catch your breath.
I loved the riding scenes with the dragons. It made me feel like I was there and could feel what the riders felt as they flew in the skies. The human characters are memorable, but the dragons are just as full of personalities. I loved everything about this book and even now as I’m writing this review, that lingering hold of the book is fresh and wants me to keep going, keep reading. If this was a movie/series, I would be binge watching all weekend.
The book is about 500 pages long, it only took me about 4-5 days to read. For me that’s fast since I’m not the fastest reader around. But I could not put it down. Fourth Wing had me hooked and captured just like a fish. But, I am now finished with Fourth Wing. And, I’m pretty sad about it.
Thank god, I have the second book! Iron Flame. I want to say that I won’t devour this book because from I’ve read on social media, there’s supposed to be third book, but its release date is unknown. So, I’m already dreading that I’m going to finish Iron Flame and be left wanting without a way to finish what I’ve started. Reader problems.
Fourth Wing is definitely a book I would recommend to any fantasy lover. Five stars and I don’t give a lot of five stars. Four stars (I do), cause I just love a lot of books, but five stars for me is rare. Fourth Wing hits all the requirements of having a strong, loveable heroine who you root for and want to see succeed despite her “weaknesses.” A blazing hot hero who is just as strong, but does not outshine our heroine. Formed friendships that end up being the heart of the book, and the bad guys you want to smack upside the head and then have your imaginary dragon torch to ashes. All boxes checked!
I got my book at Costco, but this book is available at all major book retailers. Here’s a link to Amazon, if you’d like to buy from there. This is an affiliate link, but you don’t get charged any extra.
